Small and medium enterprises – SMEs -- still face a number of regulatory barriers selling from one country to another, eBay’s Director of SME Businesses Jody Ford told business community and policy makers of the United Kingdom (U.K.).

Mr. Ford cited unnecessary differences in current consumer protection laws, even within the European Union, as a notable example. He addressed the U.K. leadership during the Global Entrepreneurship Week, which took place Nov. 15-21 in 104 countries around the world.

On Monday, The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Tiffany and Co. in a major trademark case, solidifying the ruling handed down in eBay\'s favor this September.

eBay was not held liable for trademark infringements stemming from sales on its website by individuals.  eBay Inc. continues to favor an open marketplace and actively pursues possible cases of fraud on its websites.

He highlighted unnecessary differences in current consumer protection laws, even within the European Union, as an especially notable barrier.

Check out this CNBC story highlighting the work of several different eBay Inc. staff departments who worked together to bring a bad actor to justice. Eric Weinstein was sentenced to five years in prison for using fraudulent names and credit cards to scam the company and avoid paying fees. Upon release from prison, he will be ordered to make monthly payments toward $900,000 in restitution to eBay.
