At eBay, we believe in the power of community and commerce to make a difference in the world. Our 2024 Impact Report, published today, showcases our progress in creating economic opportunities, promoting sustainable commerce, and fostering an empowered workforce. We have made great strides, building momentum to meet our 2025 and 2030 impact goals for the benefit of our sellers, buyers, marketplace, and world.
“Our team remains committed to helping people make meaningful choices about how they shop and do business,” said eBay CEO and President Jamie Iannone. “Together, we are building a better future for our global community.”
Economic Empowerment
At eBay, we grow with our community. Our marketplace thrives on the innovation and resilience of small businesses, which accounted for roughly 70% of our GMV across the U.S., U.K., and Germany—our three highest-demand markets—in 2024. In return, we uplift small businesses and entrepreneurs everywhere by building pathways to opportunity and investing in their continued success through dedicated resources and support.
In 2024, eBay for Charity enabled our community to make a difference with each purchase and raised a record-breaking $192 million for nonprofits in communities around the world in 2024 alone.
Meanwhile, eBay Foundation granted nearly $18 million to organizations that break down barriers to entrepreneurship. Since 1998, the Foundation has awarded nearly $140 million in support of economic empowerment and employee-selected causes.
Our commitment to empowering entrepreneurship is unwavering, and we're proud to support a vibrant community of sellers who in turn create more vibrant local economies.
Sustainable Commerce
As a global marketplace, we recognize our responsibility to protect the planet and its resources. We’re committed to reducing our footprint and promoting sustainable commerce practices that enable our community, our planet, and our business to thrive.
In 2024, we took bold steps in our mission to reduce our energy consumption and emissions. We achieved our goal to source 100% renewable energy across our offices, data centers, and authentication centers. We also set a new goal to achieve net-zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2045 and remain committed to investing in clean energy technologies.
We’re proud to be leaders in recommerce. In 2024, the sale of pre-loved and refurbished goods on our platform generated $5 billion in positive economic impact, avoided 1.6 million metric tons of carbon emissions, and prevented 70,000 metric tons of waste. By fostering a circular economy, we’re reducing waste, conserving resources, and cutting emissions and creating opportunities for our buyers and sellers.
“By innovating and evolving our platform and operations, we’re building a marketplace that powers economic opportunity and a more sustainable future,” said eBay Chief Sustainability Officer Renée Morin.
Culture and Workforce
Our mission to build connected communities starts with our employees. We strive to create a workplace that embraces diverse perspectives, celebrates community service, and supports our employees’ holistic wellbeing and growth. By doing this, we empower our employees to bring their best, most innovative selves to work.
In 2024, we invested in our employees' growth and development, expanding leadership coaching programs for nearly 2,000 leaders and equipping over 4,000 employees to harness the power of AI for enhanced productivity.
We also introduced new benefits to support employee wellbeing, including no-cost cancer early detection, women's health programs, and a wellbeing toolkit to prevent burnout.
Our employees continue to make a significant impact in their communities, volunteering over 60,000 hours—equivalent to 2,500 calendar days—around the world in 2024.
Trusted Marketplace
We built our platform on openness, honesty, integrity, and trust, and we’re dedicated to upholding these values in everything we do.
eBay continues to lead efforts against online wildlife trafficking. In 2024, we blocked approximately 1,000,000 listings that violated our wildlife policies. We're proud to be a founding member of the Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online and will continue to educate consumers and policymakers about the threats of illegal wildlife trafficking.
We’ve also made significant efforts to improve digital accessibility and adopted core principles for responsible AI to help ensure our platform remains safe and beneficial for all.
Looking Ahead
As we look to the future, eBay is committed to building on our momentum. We will continue to innovate, advocate, and partner with our global community to drive even greater impact. Together, we're not just building a marketplace; we're shaping a more sustainable and inclusive world through recommerce.
