PayPal Chief Information Security Officer Testifies Before Congress on Keeping the Internet Safe

February 27, 2013

Michael Barrett, Chief Information Security Officer for PayPal Inc., testified yesterday morning before the House Science, Space and Technology Committee on what the eBay Inc. family is doing to protect our users from the growing cybersecurity challenges that are facing Internet-enabled companies, both large and small.  eBay Inc. recognizes that our success and the success of our retail partners are dependent on our ability to engender consumer trust and confidence. It is hard to build consumer trust without ensuring the safety and security of a consumer's personal information, whether it is financial data, transaction history, etc.

Although it is the responsibility of industry leaders, like PayPal, to ensure the safety and security of our platforms and our users, Michael Barrett testified that federal policymakers have an important role to play in creating a secure Internet and mobile ecosystem.  eBay Inc. supports more government action to enhance online safety and security and is committed to partnering with policymakers and private and public stakeholders to ensure that we do everything in our power to achieve that goal.
