Nathan Gisvold, a former small business owner in Nevada, recently sent a letter to the editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal expressing his concerns with the Senate passed Marketplace Fairness Act. In his letter, Gisvold outlined two reasons why the Marketplace Fairness Act was flawed policy. First, he argued that that the bill violates a core value of the founding fathers: no taxation without representation.

In a recent letter to the editor, Virginia small business owner, John Feigenbaum, defends Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA)  from critics that are saying that, as the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Goodlatte is hurting Virginia small businesses by failing to pass the Senate-passed Marketplace Fairness Act.

Last week, Sarah Davis, founder of Fashionphile, shared her stories of exporting to Brazil with the Internet Retailer. In the article, Davis explained that for a long time, she had made a business decision to not export any of her high-end designer handbags to Brazil. She said that the few times she did export her items to Brazil, the customers never received their packages, which was a financial loss to her company.

David London, eBay Inc.’s Sr. Director of U.S. State Government Relations, participated in a panel discussion entitled “Cybersecurity and Technology: Public and Private Sector Opportunities in a Changing Landscape” during the 2014 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference. Hosted by Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS), the discussion focused on the lack of diversity in technology related careers.

Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee led by Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT), held a hearing to discuss the future of the Open Internet.  The hearing, entitled “Why Net Neutrality Matters: Protecting Consumers and Competition Through Meaningful Open Internet Rules”, included witnesses representing a number of stakeholders, including business, consumers and academia.  Witnesses included former FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell, actress Ruth Livier, and Nuala O'Connor, President & CEO of the Center for Democracy and Technology.
