FCC Net Neutrality Ruling - Our Take

December 18, 2017

As you may have read over the past few days, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted along party lines to approve an order to dismantle the agency's net neutrality regulations. As a reminder, these regulations were put in place by the FCC in 2015 to prohibit Internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking or slowing web traffic or creating so-called paid Internet fast lanes. eBay supports net neutrality and opposes efforts that would allow Internet service providers to replace the current open Internet with "Pay to Play" arrangements that would block, slow, or otherwise discriminate against user access to web content. The new order would remove these critical net neutrality protections and instead only require that ISPs be transparent to consumers about their practices. We expect this new order will be challenged in court and we will keep you updated on critical developments related to this important issue.
