Taxpayers’ Group to U.S. Senate: “Oppose New Internet Sales Taxes”

June 6, 2011

Last week, the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) sent a letter to every Member of the U.S. Senate urging them to oppose legislation proposed by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) that would expand sales tax collection on the Internet by instituting the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) on a national scale. The NTU not only opposes the SSUTA because it would increase taxes on e-commerce purchases and abolish the concept of sales tax competition among states, but also for the additional burdens that this proposal would place on small online retailers and entrepreneurs on the Internet.
