Stormin’ Sacramento: eBay Sellers Speak Up to Protect Entrepreneurs

June 9, 2011

Eleven California sellers recently visited the State Capitol in Sacramento to meet with elected officials and promote protections for online entrepreneurs. Representing a broad range of businesses and product categories, the sellers met with more than 13 state legislators and Governor Jerry Brown\'s office. The California Lobbying Day was prompted by current legislation, Assembly Bill 153, authored by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. This bill would place costly and burdensome tax collection and remittance duties on small, online businesses.  eBay sellers came to voice their strong opposition and to request adequate protections for businesses like theirs.  While the bill has passed the Assembly, we are working to ensure our sellers are protected when the bill is heard in the California Senate.

The California Lobbying Day followed a hugely successful grassroots campaign, where Californians sent more than 50,000 letters in opposition to Assembly Bill 153. If you haven\'t added your voice to the thousands opposing this bill, please click here to do so.
