French Bill Amended to Protect eBay Against Auctioneering Regs

June 10, 2011

Three years ago, the French Parliament proposed a draft bill aiming to subject eBay to the same regulation and licensing requirements as traditional auctioneers. This law would have put at risk the company’s liability, but more notably, our professional sellers’ businesses. At every stage of the legislative process, eBay Government Relations deployed resources to reverse the tide and influence parliamentarians to table amendments in favor of eBay sellers.  Finally, on June 1,  2011,  the French Parliament adopted the final draft bill which excludes eBay from the scope of traditional auctioneers. This is a huge victory and the end of a long battle. Thanks to our eBay PR, Business and Legal colleagues for making possible yet another significant victory for the eBay community.
