Today in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Daniel Lungren (R-CA) and lead Democratic sponsor Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) introduced a bipartisan resolution “Supporting the Preservation of Internet Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses.”  This resolution clearly expresses opposition to states imposing new tax burdens on small businesses on the Internet, including requirements to collect and remit sales taxes for out-of-state online purchases.  

Joining Congressman Lungren and Congresswoman Lofgren in support of the resolution are Congressmen Jim Matheson (D-UT), Dean Heller (R-NV),  Kurt Schrader (D-OR), Rob Wittman (R-VA),  Steve Chabot (R-OH), Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Peter King (R-NY), Sam Graves (R-MO), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Reed (R-NY), Allen West (R-FL),  Joe Pitts (R-PA), Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV),  Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Congressman Glen Thompson (R-PA) and Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX).

eBay Vice President of Global Government Relations and Deputy General Counsel Tod Cohen applauded Congressman Lungren, Congresswoman Lofgren and their colleagues for their “bipartisan leadership in defending small online retailers who are creating jobs and helping move the US economy forward.”  Cohen added, “This resolution sends a clear signal that Congress will protect Internet-enabled small businesses from new, unfair tax-collection schemes.”
