eBay Takes the Lead Against Counterfeits Online in China

April 5, 2011

The Cross-Border Trade (CBT) Government Relations team recently participated in a panel discussion on the online sale of counterfeits, organized by the Quality Brand Protection Committee (QBPC) in Beijing. More than 100 members were in attendance, including representatives from eBay’s Asset Protection Team, the Ministry of Public Security and Louis Vuitton Malletier.

In March, the Chinese government announced an effort to extend its nationwide campaign to stop the production and sale of IP-infringing goods and counterfeits, with a special focus on Internet sales.  eBay China’s Tang Lei shared the company’s best practices in protecting intellectual property on its marketplaces and reiterated eBay’s commitment to removing counterfeit goods from the site – an effort that can be effectively dealt with, through joint efforts with Rights Owners and Chinese law enforcement agencies.

After the meeting, the eBay Government Relations team hosted a reception attended by members of the QBPC leadership, members of the IP enforcement community and representatives from Qualcomm, Johnson & Johnson, Mattel, Louis Vuitton and Prada.
