eBay Develops Briefing Paper for Trade Negotiators

March 7, 2017

Earlier this month in Kobe, Japan, negotiators for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) gathered for the 17th round of the multi-nation trade agreement. RCEP brings together 16 nations and the agreement contains a number of chapters focused on market access, rules of origin, intellectual property, trade facilitation and ecommerce. Unlike the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), where companies were regularly able to engage with the trade deal negotiators, RCEP is strictly limited to trade officials with little opportunity for corporate participation. Despite this, eBay’s Kristen Foster worked in partnership with the Asia Trade Center to develop a short briefing document focused on ecommerce and the impact it has on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The paper was leveraged by the Asian Trade Center in a session with the various trade negotiators focused on ecommerce and digital trade and the impact it can have on helping MSMEs grow. eBay will continue to push this agenda on behalf of our MSMEs in Asia.
