eBay CEO Discusses the Green Economy and eBay Businesses

September 21, 2010

On Tuesday, September 14th,  the eBay Green and Government Relations teams hosted two successful events in Washington, D.C. with John Donahoe, eBay\'s CEO.  The setting was an intimate breakfast discussion with senior environmental NGO leaders, and a larger panel discussion on the environmental benefits of peer-to-peer ecommerce.

The events were timed around the launch of a new white paper commissioned by eBay and compiled by research firm Cooler, Inc. The assesses the environmental impacts of e-commerce and the move from offline to online retail, revealing that small, online businesses bring climate-positive efficiencies.

Mr. Donahoe engaged in meaningful discussion around the research as well as the continued role eBay can play on environmental and climate policy issues.  But there is more work to be done.  In closing he said, “If you take where we are today as a society and look at the legitimacy and integration of sustainability, it’s remarkable.  I feel the sense of urgency because it’s a race between our planet and our wisdom.”  Click here to read the full report.
