March 12, 2012

This month eBay Inc. participated in the 11th round of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement which took place between 1-9 March 2012 in Melbourne. The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement is a proposed new regional free trade agreement which builds on an existing Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand, Chile, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. The negotiations also include the United States, Australia, Peru, Vietnam and Malaysia.

The objective of the agreement is to significantly reduce tariffs between member countries. It is a comprehensive agreement covering all the main pillars of a free trade agreement, including trade in goods, rules of origin, trade remedies, intellectual property, government procurement and competition policy. eBay Inc. has been advocating for a balanced approach on intellectual property and copyright issues.
