Members of Congress Send Letter to House Leadership Opposing Internet Sales Tax bill

June 11, 2013

Late last week, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY), along with a bipartisan group of 15 Members of Congress, sent a letter to House Speaker Boehner and House Majority Leader Cantor opposing the Internet sales tax bill that is currently pending in the House of Representatives.  In the letter, the Members express their concerns with how the proposed legislation would burden online retailers and force them to become tax collectors for states and local jurisdictions all across the country.  In addition, the letter urged Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor to find ways to increase the flow of goods and services across the internet, not impede e-Commerce.

In addition to Congressman Massie, the following Members of Congress signed the letter: Congressman Justin Amash (R-MI); Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA); Congressman Tom McClintock (R-CA); Congressman John Fleming (R-LA); Congressman Ron DeSantis (R-FL); Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH); Congressman Jim Bridenstine (R-OK); Congressman Steve Daines (R-MT); Congressman John Culberson (R-TX); Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR); Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX); Congressman Scott Garrett (R-NJ); Congressman Walter Jones (R-NC); Congressman Kevin Cramer (R-ND); and Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR).
