Members of Congress Host Press Conference Opposing Internet Sales Tax Legislation

June 19, 2013

Yesterday, at a press conference held in front of the U.S. Capitol, Members of Congress were joined by industry leaders and taxpayer advocates to highlight the growing opposition to the current Internet sales tax legislation being debated in Congress.  The participants expressed concerns with how this legislation would subject small businesses all across the country to new tax burdens and a new enforcement regime that would allow states to impose their tax laws on businesses not located in the state.

Members of Congress participating in the press conference was: Congressman Steve Daines (R-MT); Senator Rand Paul (R-KY); Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX); Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY); Congressman Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Congressman John Fleming (R-LA).  Additional participants included Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform; Phil Bond, Executive Director of the WE R HERE Coalition; Mike Needham, Chief Executive Office for Heritage Action for America; Governor Jim Gilmore, President of the Free Congress Foundation; John Tate, President of Campaign for Liberty; and Pete Sepp, Executive Vice President for National Taxpayers Union.
