Breaking News: House Judiciary Committee Debates Internet Sales Tax Proposals

March 12, 2014

The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a full committee hearing entitled "Exploring Alternative Solutions on the Internet Sales Tax Issue" on Internet sales tax proposals at 10 am EST. Watch a live feed of the hearing.

Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) has convened the hearing in an effort to learn more about the Internet sales tax issue and the various legislative solutions that stakeholders on both sides of the issue have proposed.

Last fall, Chairman Goodlatte released seven basic principles related to the collection of Internet sales taxes.  The principles are intended to guide future discussions in Congress on how to address the issue of Internet sales taxes without overly burdening online businesses and stifling Internet and mobile commerce.  During the hearing, Chairman Goodlatte and the Members of the Judiciary Committee will discuss the various proposals and how they meet the criteria laid out by the Chairman in his principle document.

The Committee has called on six witnesses to testify at the hearing.  Witnesses are:
