Americans for Prosperity Call on Congress to not pass Internet Sales Tax Bill in Lame Duck

October 30, 2014

Christine Hanson, national issue campaign manager for Americans for Prosperity, a conservative political advocacy organization in Washington, DC, published an op-ed that urged Congress to pass legislation that extends the ban on Internet access taxes without attaching an Internet sales tax to the measure. Senate leadership has announced their intention to attach the Marketplace Fairness Act to a must pass bill, like the Internet Tax Freedom Act, which expires on December 11th. Opponents of the Senate passed Marketplace Fairness Act, including eBay Inc., have repeatedly called on Congress to keep the bill out of the post-election, or lame duck, session of Congress.

“Tax increases like the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act would bring a host of constitutional and economic problems”, wrote Hanson. “During lame duck session, Congress should pass legislation that extends the ban on Internet access taxes without attaching an Internet sales tax to the measure.”
