Senator Al Franken (D-MN), seen here with eBay and PayPal Government Relations staff, paid a visit to eBay Inc.’s San Jose headquarters last week. The Senator’s visit came as part of a tour of numerous technology companies in Silicon Valley. Senator Franken is a member of the Judiciary Committee and chairs the newly-created Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law.
Last week, the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) sent a letter to every Member of the U.S. Senate urging them to oppose legislation proposed by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) that would expand sales tax collection on the Internet by instituting the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) on a national scale. The NTU not only opposes the SSUTA because it would increase taxes on e-commerce purchases and abolish the concept of sales tax competition among states, but also for the additional burdens that this proposal would place on small online retailers and entrepreneurs on the Internet. A Member of the House Small Business Committee, Congressman West has focused much time and energy on encouraging the growth and success of our nation’s small businesses. Click here to read more.
