PayPal talks digital payments in Hong Kong

At a roundtable hosted by the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing (HKAIM) on May 19, PayPal’s General Counsel John Muller addressed a senior roundtable on "The Future of Digital Payments: Models for Innovation & Growth". Mr. Muller was accompanied by James Mirfin, Managing Director for PayPal Hong Kong.

The roundtable included representatives from Hong Kong Monetary Authority; Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau; Hong Kong Legislative Council; Office of the Ombudsman; Hong Kong Trade Development Council; as well as representatives from industry and business. John Muller outlined a host of current and upcoming payment options including: Near Field Communication; Host Card Emulation technology, QR codes; biometrics in payment authentication, tokenization; and payments in App. The roundtable also covered how regulation could be improved by better adoption of big data, following PayPal’s white paper into Payments Regulation for Asia Pacific.
