FCC Launches Broad Rulemaking to Protect and Promote the Open Internet

May 29, 2014

Last week, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched a new proceeding to determine the best way forward to preserve open Internet access in the United States.  The FCC is seeking public comment from everyone impacted by the Internet, including consumers and small businesses.  The first round of comments are due to the FCC on July 15th, 2014.  For more information on the FCC’s proceeding and to access the questions currently proposed, please visit the FCC.

eBay Inc. supports Net Neutrality and opposes efforts to replace the current open Internet with "Pay to Play" private networks that would block, slow or otherwise discriminate against content and service providers that do not pay new bandwidth tolls.  Consumers, non-profits and businesses already pay for access to the Internet. Broadband providers should not be permitted to "double dip" by charging consumers twice for high-speed Internet access and services.
