eBay Inc. Participates in Mobile Payments Discussion

March 26, 2014

Ali Gabel, a member of eBay Inc.’s Government Relations team, participated in a recent discussion hosted by the Electronic Transaction Association (ETA) on Capitol Hill on how mobile payments, like PayPal, are accelerating mobile commerce and changing the face of retail. For 14 years, PayPal has been revolutionizing the payments’ industry -- first with online payments in 1998 and then with mobile payments in 2006.

Mobile is revolutionizing how people shop and pay, becoming the digital center of peoples’ lives. PayPal is a driving force behind the growth of mobile commerce and processed $27 billion in mobile payment volume in 2013. Today, PayPal is at the forefront of the digital commerce industry by helping small businesses compete and in the process meet their customers’ needs and expectations for safe, secure and easy payments.  The mobile payments industry and the payment innovations are changing all of our daily lives and changing the way small businesses all across the country do business.

Members of Congress and policymakers are just starting to understand the importance of mobile payment innovation to the future of our economy and the success of U.S. businesses. With more than 70 percent of consumer spending now done electronically, consumers and businesses depend on the security and reliability of payment systems. PayPal and eBay Inc. look forward to working with policymakers, consumers, and small businesses to ensure that the future is bright for mobile payments.
