Performance Equipment Inc.
After spending most of his career working as an engineer in the U.S. Coast Guard, in 1994 Stan Carson and his family bought a Play It Again Sports franchise, selling sporting gear, apparel, and accessories. They operated as a traditional brick-and-mortar store, (which they rebranded Sports & Fitness Outlet in 2004) until 1997 when Stan added an online component to the business and subsequently created the Liquidation Sports brand for this part of the business. Together they operate under the Performance Equipment Inc. umbrella. Stan saw the Internet as an opportunity to increase the availability of the great prices they had to offer. Since then, Liquidation Sports has experienced substantial growth, extending the reach of their business to a global audience. Stan makes a point of hiring his employees locally, with those employees focused on sales and customer service usually having extensive background in sporting goods. Sports & Fitness Outlet is also heavily involved in their local community, regularly donating thousands of dollars in equipment and sponsorship money to community youth programs.
Owning my own business gives me the opportunity to benefit directly from my own hard work. It allows me to live in a place I love, where I could not otherwise find a job. As an additional bonus, I am constantly surrounded by my favorite stuff - sporting goods.
