Action Alert: Tell Your Representative to Sign De Minimis Letter

September 19, 2019

The Internet allows small ecommerce businesses to reach customers anywhere in the world. Policies that help cross-border transactions move smoothly and seamlessly are good for consumers and for small businesses alike. Right now, there is a proposal in Washington that could hurt American small businesses and consumers who buy and sell online: lowering the “de minimis” customs threshold. Lowering the de minimis would raise costs and put in place unnecessary red tape, hurting small businesses and consumers alike. This proposal would impede the ability of US small businesses to readily accept international returns and compete with international firms in the global marketplace.

But you can help!

Your US House Representative has the opportunity to sign a letter opposing a reduction in the de minimis customs threshold that will be sent to the United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Robert Lighthizer.

We encourage you to contact your Representative and tell them to sign the letter that is being spearheaded by Representatives Blumenauer, Buchanan, Kind and Schweikert opposing a reduction in the US de minimis customs threshold.

Thank you for your help on this important issue and please know that the eBay Government Relations team will continue to advocate for workable trade policies that reduce friction and costs for the small businesses and consumers.
