Stateside: Primary Results from Four State Elections

Four states - Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont and Wisconsin - held primaries yesterday for several local, state and federal races. In case you missed it, here are the highlights of the primary results:

  • In Vermont's open seat gubernatorial race, Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott (R) defeated Bruce Lisman (R) in the Republican primary with 59.9% of the vote. Former State Transportation Secretary Sue Minter (D) triumphed over former State Senators Matt Dunne (D) and Peter Galbraith (D) with 49.6% of the vote for the Democratic nomination.
  • In Vermont’s open seat attorney general race, Chittenden County State’s Attorney T.J. Donovan (D) easily won the Democratic nomination with 68.7% of the vote. He will face Deb Bucknam (R) in the general election.

Other notable results:

Connecticut: Two representatives – Assistant Deputy Speaker Louis Esposito (D) and Assistant Majority Leader Ernest Hewett (D) – were defeated in yesterday’s primary election. None of the senators running for re-election were defeated.

Minnesota: Three representatives – Tom Hackbarth (R), Phyllis Khan (DFL) and Joe Mullery (DFL) – and two senators – Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Hayden (DFL) and Sean Nienow (R) – running for re-election lost in yesterday’s primary election.

Vermont: In the open seat lieutenant governor’s race, Senator David Zuckerman (D) defeated House Speaker Shap Smith (D) and Representative Kesha Ram (D) for the Democratic nomination. None of the representatives running for re-election were defeated. Senator Norman McAllister (R) was the lone incumbent to lose in the Senate primaries.

Wisconsin: No incumbent challenged in the primary election lost yesterday.
