Senator Ted Cruz Speaks Out Against Internet Sales Tax Legislation

August 20, 2014

Earlier this month, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke on the Senate floor about the importance of passing the Internet Tax Freedom Act without attaching the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act. In his statement, the Senator said “If the Senate refuses to take action, the Internet will be taxed this November. For a decade and a half, Americans have been able to use the Internet all across the country free of taxes, and Republicans and Democrats have agreed on this basic principle… I would note that anyone objecting to this right now is setting the stage for a massive internet tax.” Senator Ted Cruz was joined on the floor by Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).

eBay Inc. opposes the Senate passed Marketplace Fairness Act and does not believe that small tech-enabled businesses should be burdened by a new and complicated tax regime.
