PA Small Business Owner Speaks Out Against E-Fairness Bill

July 2, 2014

Local small business owner, Tom Baxter of Pine, Pennsylvania, sent a letter to the editor of The Tribune-Review expressing his frustration with the “e-fairness” bill currently pending in Congress.  As a tech-enabled small business owner, Baxter explained that this bill is anything but fair.

“The proposed legislation is anything but “fair”: It would force me to collect and remit taxes to more than 9,000 tax jurisdictions,” wrote Baxter. “Online retail giants have the resources to easily comply with this burden; small businesses do not. This will suppress online retail entrepreneurship, impairing innovation, jobs and economic growth.”

eBay Inc. opposes any Internet sales tax bill that does not protect small tech-enabled businesses, like Mr. Baxter’s, from being treated like a mega-billion retailer.  Read more about eBay Inc.’s position on “e-fairness” or read Mr. Baxter’s letter to the editor.
