FCC Receives over 3 Million Comments on the Open Internet Proceedings

September 25, 2014

Last week, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it had received over 3 million comments regarding their Open Internet proceedings. This figure is double what the FCC reported it had received in early July during the first round of comments were received. Businesses, consumers, public interest groups and academics all filed comments with the FCC expressing their opinion on the future of the Internet and how the FCC should proceed. The Internet Association, of which eBay Inc. is a member, officially filed comments with the FCC last week. In their comments, the Internet Association reiterated its support of strong non-discrimination and no-blocking rules to protect consumers, startups, and innovation. The comments urged the FCC to adopt net neutrality rules that protect the Open Internet for years to come.

The FCC is now in the process of wading through the millions of comments that it received over the last few months.  In addition to the filed comments, the FCC announced it would hold a number of Open Internet Roundtables in order for the Commission staff and interested parties to further examine the actions the Commission should take for its goal of determining the best approach to protecting and promoting Internet openness.
