eBay Applauds Resolution to Support Small Internet Businesses

July 29, 2010

Today in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Paul Hodes (D-NH), along with Congressmen Schrader (D-OR), Pitts (R-PA), Lungren (R-CA), and Congresswoman Capito (R-WV), introduced H. Res 1570, a bipartisan resolution supporting the “preservation of Internet Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses.”  This resolution expresses the growing opposition to a bill introduced earlier this month by Congressman Delahunt (D-MA), which would impose onerous new tax burdens on small online retailers by requiring the collection and remittance of sales tax for every purchase in every sales tax jurisdiction nationwide.

eBay Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Tod Cohen applauded Congressman Hodes and his colleagues for their “commitment to protecting the hundreds of thousands of small online retailers and entrepreneurs that have provided consumers access to greater choice and quality goods.”  Cohen added, “This resolution is just part of the widespread, bipartisan opposition against new burdensome and unfair tax regimes on small online businesses.”
