eBay Inc.'s Global Asset Protection (GAP) team is an essential part of the Global Government Relations team. Our GAP colleagues are committed to fostering trust on all of the eBay Inc. sites. Working with law enforcement agencies, the GAP team fights fraudsters and others who wish to harm our community. They also work cooperatively with retailers to ensure fair and open trade.
In 2009, eBay hired Loss Prevention expert Paul Jones as eBay Inc.'s Global Director of Retail Partnerships. In the last few years, eBay has made incredible strides in creating real partnerships between eBay and the retail industry. Working together with both retailers and law enforcement, we have significantly reduced the sale of stolen goods. And we have brought bad actors to justice.
Law Enforcement eRequest System
eBay's much-applauded Law Enforcement eRequest System (LERS), automates the intake process for all forms of eBay record requests from law enforcement agencies. From faxed letterhead requests to subpoenas and search warrants, the LERS website allows U.S. law enforcement officials to get easily authenticated and then submit a case. In summary, GAP's goal is to promote the safe use of eBay Inc. platforms and to collaborate with local, federal and international law enforcement to:
- Help keep the community safe
- Enforce policies
- Investigate and pursue criminality across our platforms
- Liaison with Law Enforcement and Regulatory entities
