Born in Venezuela, Alberto Madriz came to the U.S. in 1981 and earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Orleans. Alberto’s background in computers and business has enabled him to become a successful online entrepreneur. “If you know the basics of managing merchandise, inventory, customer expectations, and how a brick and mortar business is supposed to function, it translates easily to an online business.”

In 2001 Alberto started selling used laptops online with hopes of expanding. “I never expected for my business to be this big. Over the last three months, sales have increased 200%!” More than ten years selling on eBay, his family and friends can’t believe how successful Intech Computers Corp has become. “A lot of my friends have approached me for business advice, I try to do what I can and give people guidance on how to sell online.”

Today, Alberto’s business employs 22 full-time employees and has gone from a 500 square-foot office to a 5,000 square-foot warehouse. However, the best thing eBay has done for Alberto is to provide him with the funds to send his son Adrian to the University of Michigan. “It would have been hard to send him to college otherwise; we would have had to look for other venues to earn money. “
