Global Government Relations

As you know, eBay, The World's Online Marketplace®, together with PayPal and our New Ventures companies are enabling trade on a local, national and international basis. Currently, eBay and PayPal have local sites in 32 markets in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific and through our investment with MercadoLibre, Latin America.

We currently employ more than 20 Government Relations (GR) specialists around the world to monitor and engage in the political, legislative, and regulatory activities of governments. These GR specialists work with other eBay employees and outside consultants and lawyers on an incredible range of e-commerce issues from data security and intellectual property to taxation and SPAM.

The eBay team is committed to preventing the sale of counterfeit goods and recognizes that combating fraudsters requires a global approach. On March 24, 2009 eBay led the way on collaborative anti-counterfeit efforts in the EU and released a report with comprehensive recommendations for curtailing counterfeit sales.

You can read "Empowering Consumers by Promoting Access to the 21st Century Market (PDF)" to learn how the Internet is empowering European consumers by providing them with access to a much greater choice of products and services at more competitive prices, resulting in cost savings and higher living standards, and providing Europe’s entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with an opportunity to penetrate established markets and open up new ones.

In addition, our global GR team works hand-in-hand with the eBay Community to ensure that buying and selling on eBay continues to be safe and easy and we open new markets and opportunities for our "Army of Entrepreneurs."
